The cost of training a dog guide can be as much as $35,000, and many people in desperate need of them can’t shoulder that cost. Enter the Lion’s Club’s event – the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides. The walk aims to raise funds to offset the cost of training dog guides for people that desperately need them.
Although seeing-eye dogs come to mind, there are many other examples of working dogs, including dogs trained for people with diabetes, epilepsy, hearing loss, and more.
Diane Carson – Exeter Lions Club Committee Chair for the Walk for Dog Guides says that the cause is absolutely one that everyone can get behind,
Individuals interested in participating can donate, or gather pledges to help support their walk in McNaughton park on May 28th. Carson says that following the completion of the walk, there will be refreshments, as well as prizes,
She also said that all are welcome, whether they have a furry friend or not,
Just don’t forget, if you’re at the walk, there will be service dogs present, and if they’re wearing a vest, they’re working and shouldn’t be pet.
