It’s not too often you’ll see a furry face in the local library, but you will this week if you stop by the Exeter library on Thursday.
The Canadian Mental Health Association, Thames Valley, Addiction and Mental Health Services in Exeter is hosting a therapy dog play evening at the Exeter Library, continuing bi-weekly until September.
St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Co-Ordinator for Grey-Bruce & Huron, Wendy Donaldson says that the event is good for everyone,
The event is being offered at no cost, anyone can attend by going to the library from 5-6pm. There will be board games as well as an opportunity to meet Myra the Golden Retriever, and her partner Kim Martin.
Donaldson says that therapy dogs serve a wide range of communities,
Since the pandemic, the St. John Ambulance has seen a drop in therapy dog volunteers says Donaldson,
They’re always open to volunteers, so if you have a dog with a calm disposition, you can get in touch with St. John Ambulance and see about volunteering – call 1 800 337 – 4228. They’re also always open to members of the public asking about therapy dogs visiting local hospitals, classrooms, events and more.
