Discussion about the Dashwood Community Advisory Committee at the South Huron Council Meeting on Monday (June 5) raised concerns about the pending expiration of the Dashwood playground equipment.
Counsellor Vaughan said that the existing structure is approaching retirement,
The committee has allocated $60,000 for the replacement, anticipating an even split between the Municipalities of South Huron and Bluewater to cover the cost.
Even with full contributions from the municipalities, Counsellor Vaughan said it’s likely the budget will fall short,
Fundraising efforts for the replacement are underway, with the Dashwood Men’s Club marked as a likely contributor, and grant options being explored to help absorb some of the cost of replacement.
Counsellor Oke said that a neighbouring municipality had acquired substantial grant money from the Provincial Government for a similar project,
It was discussed that since the Municipality of South Huron had recently received a Trillium Grant for another project, they were unlikely to receive further funding through that grant at this time.
A building assessment of the Dashwood Community Center – located on the same property – is scheduled to be conducted by the Municipality of Bluewater in 2023, and will likely dictate the direction of the project as well as further investments in the Dashwood Community Centre and surrounding facilities.
