The Municipality of Bluewater mourns the tragic loss of one of its Volunteer Firefighters who lost his life while responding to an emergency on June 10th.
That Saturday afternoon, emergency crews swiftly attended to a distress call in Bayfield from a boat near shore. Upon arrival, they immediately initiated life-saving measures for a 32-year-old resident of Bluewater. Tragically, despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
While assisting in the emergency response, 46-year-old John Vanderhaar, a dedicated volunteer firefighter from Bluewater, experienced a medical emergency.
Vanderhaar was swiftly transported to Goderich Hospital but, unfortunately, he later passed away.
Many local governments and fire departments shared their condolences, with the Municipality of Bluewater stating “this loss is felt deeply by our community,”.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Friday, from 1 pm to 5 pm, at the Bayfield Community Center, to honor his memory and pay tribute to his selfless service.
