An incident that could have ended very differently, had a fortunate ending on Monday afternoon.
Goshen Ridge Farms between Zurich and Dashwood was the scene of a near-death situation, when a worker fell into a silo containing 10 tonnes of sileage. The individual was in danger of being drawn into the the silo, and suffocating.
Another worker on the scene immediately called for help, and rescue attempts began, with the man in the silo being tied off with a rope before firefighters arrived and began their rescue efforts.
Fire stations from Exeter, Dashwood and Zurich were all on the scene, as were paramedics and Huron OPP. Air support was also on call if needed.
The slow and lengthy rescue process saw the grain emptied from the bottom slowly, resulting in no major injuries to the man trapped inside.
