To support students’ well-being, the board allocated more funding for mental health and well-being professionals. Social workers, psychotherapists, and other regulated experts were hired to provide support.
Addressing the learning gaps caused by the disruptions of the pandemic also proved to be crucial. The board focused on building up essential skills like reading, writing, and math.
With pending legislation increasing transparency and accountability, Dr. Walsh says that the board’s strategic plan has set them up for success, but she also says that it’s not just about the numbers,
Dr. Walsh’s passion for education is evident in her commitment to transforming lives and preparing students to become active citizens.
Despite the challenges faced, Avon Maitland District School Board continues to inspire and empower students, creating a brighter future for all.
