A fire on Airport Line this Summer had firefighters on the scene for several days | Photo: Provided by Chad Smith
Shortly after 10:30pm yesterday evening (July 9), South Huron Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Airport Line, outside of Exeter.
A barn full of hay and straw was completely engulfed in flames. A dozen tankers from various municipal fire departments including Bluewater, South Huron, Lucan-Biddulph, Lambton Shores and North Middlesex shuttled water to the scene from hydrants in Exeter, attempting to extinguish the flames. At this time, many departments remain on the scene.
Fire Chief Jeremy Becker said that South Huron fire department assisted Bluewater last weekend at a similar event, both of which were likely caused by the combustion of the contents.
Fortunately, the building in question on Airport line was far from other structures, the wind was in their favour, and no injuries have been reported at this time.
