A local troublemaker is facing charges after he turned a regular day at Wingham and District Hospital into an eventful one.
Just before 6pm on Wednesday, July 5, law enforcement received a distress call reporting the presence of an unruly individual at the hospital. Although staff had requested that the person in question leave the premises, they refused.
While en route to the scene, a subsequent call alerted police that the individual attempted to forcefully gain entry into the hospital by using a chair to shatter the locked doors.
To ensure the well-being of patients and staff, the hospital went into a lockdown.
When OPP officers arrived, the suspect was located inside the emergency department, and refusing to follow directions from law enforcement. Law enforcement officers used a taser to safely apprehend the 35-year-old from North Huron.
Substantial damage at the hospital entrance, affecting both sets of entry doors as well as numerous items within the facility was caused by the individual, and the entry is currently closed for repairs.
