A local family’s journey toward stability and self-reliance reached a joyous milestone on Sunday, July 9, as Winston and Nicole, along with their two sons, ages 10 and 4, and one-year-old daughter, were handed the keys to their new Habitat home.
Habitat for Humanity Huron County Executive Director Cheryl Jefferson says that the Homeownership Program requires families to contribute 500 volunteer hours and maintain an affordable mortgage based on their income,
Since its establishment in 2005, Habitat for Humanity Huron County has handed keys to 17 families.
The Habitat program goes beyond providing shelter. Families participating in the program experience a myriad of benefits that promote stability, self-reliance, and improved quality of life.
Moreover, the sense of security and ownership that comes with a Habitat home allows families to relax and thrive, leading to improved physical and mental well-being. Surveys have indicated that children living in Habitat homes perform better academically, benefiting from a dedicated space for studying and a stable living environment.
Nicole and Winston’s experience as parents to two (now three) children exemplifies the transformative impact of Habitat for Humanity Huron County’s affordable homeownership program.
Habitat for Humanity Huron County continues to build hope, foster a sense of belonging, and lay the foundation for brighter futures. Through partnerships with the government, generous donations, and dedicated volunteers, the organization is making homeownership a reality for more families in need.
