An increase of more than $7.4 million in base funding for hospitals in Huron, Gray-Bruce is coming down the pipe as the result of an announcement on Thursday (July 20).
This comes in the midst of a staggering number of ER closures – but President and CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance Andrew Williams doesn’t point the finger at the province,
As part of the larger $850 million additional investment allocated for the 2023-24 year, the government has committed to providing all public hospitals across Ontario with a minimum two percent funding increase.
Acknowledging the unique challenges faced by smaller and northern hospitals in the province, the Ontario government is making an additional one-time investment of $22 million to establish the Small and Northern Hospital Stabilization Fund.

Locally, South Huron Hospital is one of the sites to benefit from this funding.
Locally, South Huron Hospital, Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich, Wingham and District Hospital, as well as the HPHA’s Clinton Public Hospital, and Seaforth Community Hospital all received an increase of 2-2.1% in additional funding.
