Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia is continuing to face significant delays and challenges due to ongoing construction work.
With only one lane available for traffic, long lineups of vehicles have become a common sight, causing frustration for commuters and concerns for the local community.
The impact of the construction extends beyond traffic delays. Residents in Point Edward have faced difficulties accessing off-ramps, and the economy of Port Huron, Michigan, which relies on cross-border traffic, has also been affected.
Criticism has been directed towards the timing of the construction, with some questioning why it wasn’t done during the pandemic when travel was reduced.
Sarnia Police Services have been actively involved in managing the situation, redirecting drivers attempting to avoid the delays by using alternative routes through the city. While these enforcement measures are in place to ensure order, they have also raised safety issues, with traffic bollards being frequently damaged by vehicles attempting turns.
Unfortunately, the construction and lane reductions are expected to continue until October, leaving commuters and travelers to bear the brunt of the inconvenience for the time being. As the situation persists, authorities are working to manage the flow of traffic and minimize disruptions, but the challenges remain until the construction project is completed.
