More funding is being invested by the province to help protect our local water.
David Piccini, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks made this exciting announcement Monday.
MPP for Huron Bruce, and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Lisa Thompson shared her excitement, “A resilient agriculture and food industry has a direct co-relation to the health of our Great Lakes. Today’s announcement is another positive step in advancing best practices that support the goals outlined in Ontario’s Great Lakes Strategy. We are taking a multi-ministry approach to positioning Ontario as ‘best in class’ when it comes to good stewardship and a healthy ecosystem associated with our Great Lakes.”
Piccini observed the importance of the lakes to the economy in Ontario,
The great lakes basin supports 50 million jobs and a GDP of $7 trillion for the Canadian and US economies.
It’s water helps generate 80% of our electricity, they are vital to our agriculture industry, provide rich ecosystems, sustain traditional activity of many indigenous nations, and their natural beauty draws Ontarians and visitors bolstering our tourism industry.
