The local MS Bike Tour from Grand Bend to London had a local participant, who embarked on the 155 kilometer journey despite less than ideal conditions.
On Saturday, July 29th, as participants gathered at the motorplex, Mother Nature had other plans. A torrential downpour, accompanied by lightning and thunder saw the ride cancelled due to the hazardous conditions.
Patti Soer was undeterred by the weather, she chose to wait it out,
Along the way she met up with other cyclists that hadn’t been deterred by the bad weather, and was greeted with cheers upon her arrival in London.
Early next morning, at around 7:30 am, Patti and her neighbor set out again, this time starting their ride back towards Grand Bend. The journey back was no less demanding, with the wind posing an additional challenge, but Patti persevered.
In total, the MS Bike Tour covered 155 kilometers, with Patti completing it in just under eight hours.
Patti’s determination and dedication to the cause brought in a total of $5,415, surpassing her initial goal of $5,000. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone that supported her,
She also gave a shoutout to her trainer at Jolt Fitness – who got her ready for the ride in record time.
Looking ahead, Patti is gearing up for her next challenge – in August, she has committed to biking 200 kilometers to maintain her cycling spirit. Additionally, she has already signed up for next year’s MS Bike Tour.
Soer’s journey in the MS Bike Tour serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and the power of community support. She hopes that her determination and triumph will motivate others to take up similar challenges for a worthy cause.
