Carrie and Adam display the bottles that bear his family's heritage.
The owners of Cornerfield Wine Co. between St. Joseph’s and Bayfield consider themselves more than just winemakers, they’re stewards of heritage.
Owned by Adam Durand, his wife Carrie, and father Joe, the winery’s story weaves a tapestry of family history and the region’s French roots.
Adam returned to his family farm in 2010, seeking to create a venture that would engage each generation. He and his family embarked on their wine journey, cultivating vineyards on their small acreage.
The winery’s distinct touch comes from the use of old family photographs on their bottles. Durand revealed that the idea emerged when they had asked their family to send them old pictures to display in the winery.
Notable among these images is the “Farmer and Frenchman” white blend, which features a photograph of Durand’s grandfather on the beach with his team of horses. The photograph dates back to 1944, a testament to the enduring connection between generations. Another bottle showcases Durand’s grandmother at work with horses during the same era, capturing the essence of hard work and dedication that transcends time.
Cornerfield Wine Co. is situated in a region with a rich French heritage – Adam’s own grandfather was grew up with French as his first language,
Durand also articulated his pride in his community, while also paying homage to the tourism that keeps our economy running.
Cornerfield Wine Co. stands as a living testament to the power of heritage, family, and the journey that a simple bottle of wine can take you on – a journey through time and taste.
