Homeowners may be aware of the upcoming municipal property tax deadline coming up in South Huron on September 15, but have you thought about what those tax dollars actually go to?
South Huron Mayor George Finch says that on a municipal level, many services are supported by that tax,
He says the biggest ticket item for the municipality is transportation services, accounting for 16 cents of every dollar, closely followed by protection services like policing and fire, accounting for 15 cents of every dollar.
Mayor Finch says that the best way to pay property taxes is online,
He also said that as a retired police officer, it makes him nervous when people walk around with large amounts of cash on them – it’s best to pay your property taxes through your bank, or online when you can.
Mayor Finch said that paying property taxes is important to support our community,
He also said that tax increases in recent years have been necessary as the costs of goods, services, and staffing have also increased.
