In an era where the demographic landscape our community is transitioning away from its agricultural roots, the importance of physical activity for older individuals is growing.
At 64 years old, Joy McClymont knows firsthand the benefits of staying active as one ages. After a serious accident that fractured her vertebrae 30 years ago, she turned to exercise for her recovery.
Today, she runs five fitness classes a week through the Grand Bend Community Health Centre, focusing on strength training that empowers participants to handle everyday tasks with ease.

One of Joy’s classes
Joy’s fitness community is tightly-knit, drawing people from places like Zurich and Dashwood. Her classes transcend age boundaries, welcoming attendees ranging from their 30s to their 80s. This inclusivity speaks to Joy’s philosophy that physical activity knows no age limits.
Beyond physical health, Joy emphasized the social connections that are vital to combatting the isolation often experienced by older individuals.
Her approachable and adaptable teaching style has helped countless individuals overcome their hesitation and fear of starting a fitness routine.
Her classes are always full, but she’s always happy to see a new face. You can find out more by contacting the Grand Bend Community Health Centre.
