Animal control in Bluewater is likely in for some changes in the near future following a discussion at council on September 5th.
Development Manager Aaron Stewardson explained that staff aim to determine the level of service required for effective animal control in the area.
Councilor Scott Harris noted that the way things had been done in the past may not be possible anymore,
Deputy Mayor John Becker identified an increase in cases of abandoned dogs in the area,
He stressed the importance of finding a capable individual or organization that could efficiently manage the entire job. He suggested polling other municipalities in the county to explore potential solutions.
Mayor Paul Klopp concluded the discussion by noting that the conversation wasn’t over,
He also mentioned revisiting the financial aspects of dog tags, which were originally meant to help subsidize animal control costs.
A report with recommendations will be presented to council at a later date.
