Clinton’s parks have fallen victim to a recent wave of vandalism that is costing the Municipality of Central Huron.
myFM connected with Steve Duizer, Facilities Manager at the Municipality, who reported repeated sabotage of public restroom facilities. Vandals have been targeting these facilities almost daily, resulting in clogged toilets that have required extensive repairs. The situation has become so dire that snaking toilets has become a near-daily routine for maintenance staff.
Additionally, both bathroom doors in the park have suffered extensive damage, necessitating the installation of new deadbolts to secure the facilities. One door now bears a visible curve, a testament to the vandals’ relentless attempts to gain unauthorized access. Furthermore, one window had its lock broken, prompting them to take the drastic measure of screwing them all shut.
Duizer said that the necessity of snaking the public toilets has become an almost daily occurrence for staff.
The Municipality of Central Huron is not taking these acts of vandalism lightly. Municipal staff are actively engaged in discussions to formulate strategies for heightened monitoring and enhanced security measures in the park.
