United Way Perth-Huron is launching their annual awareness campaign on Friday October 13th with a “Lunch ‘n’ Learn at Exeter Pentecostal Tabernacle.
Ryan Erb, Executive Director of United Way Perth-Huron says that the event is a great opportunity to meet local social service workers that work to help the marginalised in our own community,
A large initiative that United Way Perth-Huron has spearheaded in the community is the connection centre.
If you’ve always wondered what it is that they do at the connection centre, attendees of the launch can get a tour of the facilities, as well as hear a testimonial from a member of the community that has benefitted from the services that they provide.
Erb says that the connection centre works with other agencies to provide mental health, and addictions services, paramedics and medical aid, and even legal aid to help with things like tenancy disputes.
This year, their big push is to establish a fund that people in the community can access when they need help the most.
This years campaign #UNIGNORABLE is focusing on homelessness, mental health and access to services. United Way is the second largest funder of social service agencies after the provincial government.
Erb says that it’s important to help when you’re in a position to, because you never know when you might need help.
United Way Perth-Huron is working to increase access to social services in small towns – which can have a gap in care for marginalised people due to lack of population density. They’re working to make a difference in the lives of friends, neighbours, colleagues and strangers, and you can help support them in this mission.
So join in at their Lunch ‘n’ Learn from 12:00 – 1:30 on October 13th, tickets are $20, head to uwph.ca for more information.
