Cultivating land stretching across Bluewater, and beyond, CedarVilla Farms is a cornerstone of the local agricultural scene.
Although owner operator TJ Klopp tends to downplay the vastness of his operation, it covers approximately 7,000 acres spread from north of Zurich, all the way to Sarnia, their work spans fields of corn, soybeans, wheat, and edible beans.
Day-to-day life on CedarVilla Farms is a perpetual dance with the seasons. Winters see the shipment of stored grain, while spring brings forth planting and the meticulous care of crops. As summer unfolds, wheat harvests begin, making way for cover crops, and fall heralds the major harvest before preparing the land for the upcoming year. The cycle repeats itself, year over year.
However, farming isn’t without its triumphs and challenges. TJ acknowledges that they’re very reliant on the weather – it’s difficult to predict when conditions will be good in their fields, especially with their expansive geography limiting how quickly they can move equipment from A to B.
CedarVilla Farms’ success is deeply intertwined with the support of the local community. They collaborate closely with local elevators and producers. Partnerships with entities like the Hensall Co-op are instrumental, creating a relationship where they rely on each other.
Beyond business, the Klopps actively engage with their community. Their involvement goes beyond financial contributions – TJ is a big believer in the importance of volunteering and active participation. He thinks that his involvement in the future of his community is what works toward creating a good community for his kids to grow up in.
