It soon could be mandatory for employers to disclose expected salary ranges in job postings.
Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, David Piccini was in Peterborough on Monday to announce the government is going to be introducing legislation requiring employers to include expected salary ranges.
Piccini, says it is only fair companies communicate transparently about how they pay workers.
He says including salary ranges with job postings can help close the gender pay gap. Right now, women in Ontario earn an average of $0.87 for every dollar earned by men – a number that is worse for racialized and Indigenous women.
In addition, Piccini says the legislation would make businesses disclose if artificial intelligence is used during their hiring process.
Finally, Piccini says the government will also be conducting consultations and detailed analysis on ending the use of Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) in the settlement of cases of workplace sexual harassment, misconduct or violence.
