Constable Sanchuck took to X to remind drivers of some basic safety tips.
If you’ve been on the roads today, you already know first hand that it’s not exactly a nice day for a drive out there.
Provincial Constable Ed Sanchuck with OPP West Region took to the social media platform X to remind drivers of the dangerous winter driving conditions in the snow squall watch.
The watch was issued by Environment Canada yesterday morning, and is expected to continue into this evening – with 15-30 cm projected throughout the day today.
Huron OPP issued a storm warning last night with a few winter safety tips for drivers to consider in their vehicle:
- Ensure your vehicle is prepared for weather events with some basic items
- Snowbrush
- Blanket
- Cell phone charger
- Snacks
- Warm clothing
- Top up your windshield washer fluid
- Fill up your fuel tank (or charge your vehicle battery) to full
- Clear your front windshield completely as well as your rear window, side windows and mirrors.
- Another safe practice is to tell your loved ones your planned route of travel and message them when you have arrived safely.
Yesterday alone, OPP West Region responded to over 100 crashes.
Constable Sanchuk had some good parting words of wisdom:
Let’s make sure that everyone gets home safely today – take your time.
