It was all smiles on this morning (November 30) when officials from the municipality and county met with managers and temporary foreign workers at Lipman Family Farms, just west of Exeter.
The greenhouse operation there employs foreign workers who will have a much easier commute into town with the paving of the shoulders on highway 83.
Mayor of South Huron George Finch says that safety was top of mind when undertaking the project.
Historically gravel, the county identified the hazard to cycling foreign workers on the busy highway, and decided to pave it to provide an easier route into town.
Huron County Warden Glen McNeil says that getting ahead of hazards like this is ideal.
Albert Janssen, head grower and general manager of the greenhouses said that the employees have already made it clear that the road widening has made their lives easier, and safer.
Employee Odaine Bull has been working seasonally at Lipman Family Farms for two years, he says that this year the difference with the paved shoulder is already noticeable.
The project not only reflects a commitment to safety but also underscores a dedication to improving the daily lives of those contributing to the local agricultural economy.
