It’s time for 12 days of Fire Safety, brought to you by the South Huron Fire Department, and Lambton Shores Fire Department.
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire! That’s what could happen if you don’t keep a close eye on your tree this holiday season.
South Huron Fire Prevention Officer Mike Herbert emphasized the importance of attentive tree watering, highlighting falling needles as a warning sign that the tree is drying out and posing a fire risk.
One of the key points discussed was the impact of heat sources – Herbert warned that the proximity of such sources can accelerate the drying process, turning the festive centerpiece into a potential fire hazard.
He urged residents to be vigilant and ensure that heat sources like furnace vents, fireplaces, and space heaters are positioned at a safe distance from their trees.
He says that if you’re the sort be a bit less attentive with your watering habits, perhaps an artificial tree is the right choice for you.
As the holiday season approaches, South Huron residents are encouraged to adopt these preventive measures to safeguard their homes and loved ones.
