Discussions regarding South Huron’s 2024 budget on Monday saw request for several new vehicles for use in the municipality.
Councilor Ted Oke inquired about potential sharing between departments and emphasized the importance of understanding the broader context of the municipality’s vehicle fleet.
Infrastructure Manager Don Giberson responded, highlighting safety issues associated with towing trailers beyond the vehicle’s capacity.
He emphasized the operational challenges faced during winter operations when borrowing vehicles becomes impractical.
Alyssa Keller, the manager of environmental services, supported the need for the new truck, citing safety, legality, and operational efficiency.
Councilor Oke reiterated the importance of a comprehensive fleet management strategy, urging the municipality to be more creative in vehicle utilization across departments. He emphasized the need for a thorough discussion and development of a vehicle policy before budget deliberations for 2025.
