The Starter Company Plus program in Huron County offers business training, mentoring, and grants of up to $5,000 for eligible participants starting, expanding, or buying a small business.
In the latest round, eight local businesses completed the program and received a total of $24,500 in grants.
Vicki Lass, Director of Economic Development, emphasized the program’s value in training and coaching for businesses’ growth.
The 2023 intake had 27 applications, with 20 businesses entering the 12-week training.
Seventeen graduated, and 16 pitched for a chance to get a $5,000 micro-financing grant.
In 2023, the program supported 13 startups, 4 expansions, and added 35 jobs to the local economy

- Great Lakes Property Management – MacDonald Laplante, Goderich (ACW)
- Mister Pristine – Mark Scrimgeour, Londesborough (Central Huron)
- Old Railway Popcorn Company – Joleen Krebs, Clinton (Central Huron)
- Suncoast Canvas – Craig Wark, Goderich (ACW)
