As the holiday season approaches, it’s crucial for residents to be aware of the adjusted hours for local businesses and services.
With Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve both falling on Sundays, the usual routines are experiencing some changes.
Municipality of South Huron
- Municipal Office: Closes at noon on Friday, Dec. 22; Reopens on Tuesday, January 2nd at 8:30 am.
- Landfill: Closed on Christmas and Boxing Day, as well as January 1st.
Municipality of Bluewater
- Municipal and Development Services Offices: Close at 12 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22; Reopen on Tuesday, January 2nd.
- Landfill: Closed on January 1st.
- Hensall and Zurich Arenas: Close at 4 pm on Dec. 24, closed on the 25th and 26th of December, close at 4 pm on Dec. 31, closed on January 1st.
Municipality of Lambton Shores
- Municipal Office: Open until 12 pm on Dec. 22, closed for the week of Christmas, reopens on January 2nd at regular business hours.
Local Grocery Stores
- Hansen’s Independent Grocer (Exeter): Closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day; Open 10 am – 5 pm on Boxing Day; Christmas Eve: 7 am – 5 pm.
- Sobeys Grand Bend: Dec. 24: Open 7 am – 6 pm; Dec. 25: Closed; Boxing Day: 9 am – 6 pm; Dec. 31: 7 am – 7 pm; Closed on New Year’s Day.
- No Frills Grand Bend: Varied hours throughout the holiday period; Closed on Jan. 1, and December 25th
- Exeter Foodland: Dec. 24: 7am-5pm, Closed Christmas and Boxing Day, Dec. 31st: 7am – 5pm, Closed New Years Day.
Libraries
- Huron County Library (Exeter): Open on Dec. 23 until 12:45 pm; Closed on Dec. 24 – 26; Open on Dec. 30 from 10 am – 12:45 pm; Closed on New Year’s Day.
- Lambton County Library: All 25 locations and book return bins closed on Dec. 24, 25, 26, 31, 2023, and Jan. 1, 2024.

Residents are advised to check with the Bluewater Recycling Association for route specific details on adjusted garbage and recycling pickups.
