2023 has been a year for the books, and looking back on the past year, the community has accomplished a lot – but don’t take it from us here at myFM, we sat down with MPP Lisa Thompson, representative for Huron-Bruce to talk about what she has to say about this past year.
Locally, Minister Thompson expressed pride in the collaboration between local government and the community, acknowledging the role of Exeter in providing homes and support for those in need.

Other accomplishments mentioned included the progress in Bluewater’s new water tower project and the expansion of the playground in Hensall, demonstrating the commitment to infrastructure development that supports growth in the community.
She also tipped her hat to Exeter’s 150th-anniversary celebration, where Thompson met with many influential local figures.
But this past year wasn’t without it’s challenges, Minister Thompson emphasized the importance of mental wellness, underscoring the need to work with local service providers, as well as identifying housing affordability and the rising cost of living as significant hurdles, with a particular focus on supporting initiatives to alleviate the financial burden on residents.
Minister Thompson said that these challenges are top of mind for many communities throughout the province, and that collaboration from all levels of government will be needed to tackle the cost of living, mental health, and housing crises.
As a leader, Thompson expressed her commitment to inspiring young people to get involved in their communities and advocating for volunteerism, acknowledging its decline, as well as it’s pivotal role in our community. She outlined goals for the upcoming year, including advocating for investment to every municipality in Huron County as well as supporting trades, an area she sees as crucial for the region’s future.
Highlighting the entrepreneurial spirit and success stories of local businesses like Hayters Turkey and Metzger Meats, Thompson expressed confidence in the region’s ability to overcome challenges. She emphasized the importance of showcasing these success stories to attract more business to the region, and foster continued growth in the population to meet the labour demands that new businesses will create.
In closing, Thompson extended holiday wishes to the residents of Huron County, expressing optimism that effective communication and collaboration between local governments, organizations, and the province will yield positive results in the coming year.
