A proposal by the Exeter Rodeo to donate money to the local foodbank was contested at South Huron Council’s meeting on Monday (December 18).
The rodeo committee had earmarked a $10,000 surplus from previous years to be donated to the community, a reccomendation which Councilor Ted Oke first contested.
Deputy Mayor Jim Dietrich (who sits on the rodeo committee) said that the committee had decided that their surplus would be better at work in the community than in a reserve.
Councilor Aaron Neeb stated that he was in favour of moving forward with the donation.
Councilor Marissa Vaughan agreed with Councilor Oke – pointing toward heavy subsidization at arenas, as well as various facilities costs.
The motion ultimately did not pass, despite support from Deputy Mayor Jim Dietrich, Councilor Aaron Neeb and Mayor George Finch.
