2023 was a year for the books in the Municipality of Bluewater – with several notable accomplishments.
In an interview with Mayor Paul Klopp, he noted several key achievements, including the unveiling of a new park in Hensall, made possible by a Trillium grant received in the fall, The Bayfield Main Street revitalization project, and many infrastructure improvements like the Lake Huron water initiative in Zurich, and the Hensall water tower project.
Big strides in local legislation were undertaken, including Bluewater’s new short term rental by-law, introduced this past Summer.
However, challenges loomed large in 2023, particularly in the realms of housing, homelessness, and workforce shortages. Mayor Klopp emphasized the need for collaboration between local and upper-tier governments to tackle these complex issues.
Mayor Klopp says that the municipality’s focus on fiscal responsibility, and strategic infrastructure investments underscores their commitment to overcoming challenges within their means.
Looking ahead to 2024, Mayor Klopp expressed optimism about the community’s ability to face challenges head-on. He says that he looks forward to the momentum generated by new people choosing to call our community home.
He says that the story and work ethic of people calling Huron County their new home is echoed across generations, and feels familiar to his own family’s journey to call Bluewater their own.
As Mayor Klopp continues to lead Bluewater, his goals for 2024 include maintaining a balanced approach to spending, ensuring every council member’s voice is heard, and fostering collaboration among differing opinions.
