Tackling workforce challenges and exploring the nuanced concepts of decent work and becoming an employer of choice – Huron County Economic Development, in partnership with United Way Perth-Huron, will host a roundtable discussion at the Seaforth Legion on Thursday (January 18th 2024).
A panel of identified employers of choice will share success stories, challenges, and best practices, fostering an interactive environment that includes municipal voices, HR professionals, and business owners.
At the core of the discussion lies the question of “what is decent work” – something that Workforce Coordinator Clara Leney says goes beyond pay.
Director of Economic Development Vicki Lass emphasized the importance of understanding the labor market and dispelling myths.
This marks the beginning of a broader initiative to address workforce challenges in rural Ontario. Innovation takes center stage, with a focus on tech solutions and workforce retention. The organizers aspire to create a supportive network, sharing best practices to benefit both employers and future employees.
The workshop will help to educate employers about how they can increase employee retention by becoming an “employer of choice” – a practice that Leney says will give employers a competitive edge.
Leney envisions this event as a launch pad for a series of future discussions. The topics on the horizon include HR best practices, training for retention, and the intricacies of permanent employment. The overarching goal is to create an ongoing dialogue that resonates with the ever-changing needs of the workforce – and to make sure that the workforce demands of Huron County are met to allow it to continue to grow and prosper.
