If you’ve struggled with rising housing costs, a local survey is looking to give a voice to the people beyond the statistics.
United Way Perth-Huron’s Social Research and Planning Council has initiated a Cost of Housing survey for residents across the region.
Kristin Crane, the Director of Social Research and Planning, emphasized the importance of understanding the human impact amid the prevailing housing crisis.
“Statistics tell one side of the story, but behind the numbers are real people facing challenges of homelessness, precarious housing, and unaffordable living,” Crane stated. The survey, open throughout January and accessible online, encourages individuals and families to anonymously share their experiences, fostering a safe space for dialogue.
Ryan Erb, Executive Director of UWPH, stressed the survey’s significance in community building and addressing housing concerns. “This information is critical for understanding local needs and supporting initiatives like the Urgent Needs Fund, Connection Centres, and housing development efforts,” Erb explained. He urged community members to participate, as their input directly contributes to informed decision-making.
