Celebrating accomplishments amid challenges, Ryan Erb, Director of United Way Perth-Huron looked back at the last year as a decided success, highlighting their first Indigenous-led program “Two Row Now”, as well as collaborating with the Stratford Perth Pride Centre, reinforcing their commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Partnering with other organizations and supporting them with funding is one of the most important things that United Way does, and it’s something that Erb says they have delivered on constantly.
However, Erb acknowledged the pressing challenges faced by the community, particularly in the realms of equity, diversity, inclusion, and housing.
The United Way is shifting its focus towards addressing homelessness by emphasizing the importance of housing initiatives. Erb expressed optimism about the future, with four Connection Centres throughout the region, and plans for two more by 2025 – he says that the community shows up and demonstrates their support every single time.
Looking ahead to 2024, Erb outlined his personal goals as a leader, including going back to school to learn how to better navigate government interactions and support policy initiatives addressing social issues. He stressed the importance of addressing poverty at its root through long-term policy changes.
As the campaign to reach the $2.5 million goal continues until March 31st, United Way Perth-Huron remains steadfast in its commitment to making a positive impact on the community – you can help them reach their goal today, at perthhuron.unitedway.ca
