In a somber moment during Huron County Council’s meeting on Wednesday morning (January 24), Mayor Paul Klopp announced the passing of Jack Riddell.

Riddell, who peacefully passed away at the age of 92 on January 23, left a lasting impact on the community.
Warden Glen McNeil expressed condolences on behalf of the council, acknowledging Riddell’s unwavering dedication to public service.
Mayor Klopp shared personal anecdotes, highlighting Riddell’s success in every political endeavor and his undefeated retirement in September 1990 – at which time Mayor Klopp took his position as MPP.
The heartfelt reminiscence continued with Klopp recounting Riddell’s emphasis on fair and respectful political discourse. Despite political differences, Riddell exemplified the importance of courtesy and collaboration.
Klopp recalled seeking guidance from Riddell when he first entered the role as MPP following Riddell’s retirement.
Acknowledging Riddell’s significant contributions to the community, Klopp expressed gratitude to the Riddell family for their support throughout Jack’s political career. The Warden commended Riddell’s service to Huron County and the broader agricultural sector, expressing sympathy to the grieving family.
As a final tribute, Warden McNeil recognized the half-masting of flags at the courthouse and Mayor Klopp shared details of the memorial service to be held in Exeter on Saturday at the United Church from 11-1, inviting fellow councillors to pay their respects.
