Lucan-based company OJB Industries Inc. is now facing a $120,000 fine after a workplace fatality occurred in May 2022.
Fines issued last week indicated that the incident involved a worker who succumbed to carbon monoxide exposure following a fire in an oil-lubricated air compressor.
The worker (who was wearing a respirator) was sandblasting when a fire erupted in the oil-lubricated compressor, which resulted in the worker’s demise due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The Ministry of Labour’s investigation, revealed a failure on the part of the company in adhering to safety standards – with lack of sufficient carbon monoxide monitor, and the respirator utilized by the worker did not filter contaminants, emphasizing the necessity of a carbon monoxide monitor.
