More than 5000 students in Huron Perth are attending school without complete vaccination records.
That’s according to a release from Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) that says 39% of the students in Huron Perth lack the required immunizations for school attendance or haven’t reported their immunizations to public health..
Jennifer Beaver, a Public Health Nurse with the immunizations team, noted, “COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and a focus on pandemic response limited the ability of health units and primary care providers to offer routine immunizations. Many students missed getting their routine immunizations as a result.”
In response, HPPH has initiated catch-up immunization clinics and resumed in-school clinics in the fall of 2023. Letters are being sent through schools to parents of students with incomplete records, outlining necessary steps.
Parents are urged to check and update their child’s immunization status and report their own records to HPPH online or by phone.
Parents have until March 4 to submit information and avoid suspension notices.
