A local company is celebrating 70 years in business in a special way.
Looking to address the pressing issue of affordable housing in Huron County, McCann Redi-Mix, donated $25,000 to United Housing – the latest initiative announced by United Way Perth-Huron, becoming an affordable housing developer.
Jesse McCann, President of McCann Redi-Mix, highlighted the urgency of the housing problem, emphasizing that it’s not just an urban challenge.
McCann acknowledged that housing challenges do impact their workforce of 150 staff, making the partnership with United Housing even more meaningful.
The donation is McCann’s way of celebrating 70 years in business.
They supported foodbanks and a mental health respite centre for farmers with the remaining funds.
Ryan Erb, Executive Director of United Way Perth-Huron, expressed gratitude for the donation, detailing how it would aid pre-development projects.
The funds will support essential tasks such as applying for government funding, securing land, and navigating zoning changes.
Erb says that the Huron County projects are progressing well.
Looking ahead, United Housing hopes to have shovels in the ground in the next two years, with progress already underway on significant projects in Goderich and Exeter. Listowel is set to witness the first announced project, a 10-unit renovation providing housing above commercial real estate.
