In a bid to celebrate the rich sports history and athletic achievements within South Huron, the Sports Hall of Fame project is bac seeking individuals to join its committee.
Councilor Ted Oke, who will sit on the committee says the project started in early 2020, however, the project was temporarily halted due to the pandemic. Now, with the completion of two renovated arenas, the committee aims to revive the initiative and honor the outstanding players, coaches, and sports builders in South Huron.
The importance of recognizing local sports achievements lies in the pride it brings to the community – something that Councilor Oke says deserves to be celebrated.
The committee aims to start its work by spring, with the goal of submitting nominations later in the year and potentially hosting a recognition event in the fall – but before they can get started, they need some passionate volunteers to help direct the future of the project.
The chosen individuals could be commemorated through write-ups, pictures, an archive, or possibly displayed on available wall space in the South Huron Recreation Centre.
For those interested in contributing, the municipality is actively recruiting people to participate in the decision-making process.
The deadline for applications has been extended to February 16th, and details can be found on the South Huron website and social media.
