Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced $45.6 million in provincial funding for two new elementary schools in Middlesex County during an visit to the Strathroy high school on Wednesday afternoon.
He stated that the Ministry of Education has granted approval for an allocation of nearly $25 million towards the construction of a new public elementary school in Lucan, which will also incorporate a child care facility.
Mayor of Lucan-Biddulph, Cathy Burquardt-Jesson told myFM about she feels about the news.
The school with run under the Thames Valley District School Board and aims to accommodate the increasing number of young families in the area, with 531 spots for students and 88 spaces for childcare.
While nothing is confirmed at the moment, Burquardt-Jesson believes that the grades will be split when it comes time for the new school.
When asked if she knew an announcement was coming her way, Burquardt-Jesson says solutions have been in the works for awhile, but are now being finalized.
The school will help alleviate overcrowding in existing schools, addressing the growing demand for education in the region which Burquardt-Jesson notes is important to the community.
