Gasoline prices in Huron County and Western Ontario are set to surge to levels not seen since August 2022 – which coincided with the easing of pandemic restrictions.
According to Dan McTeague, President of Canadians for Affordable Energy, this spike can be attributed to the weakening Canadian dollar and the annual transition of refineries to the pricier summer-blend gasoline.
The recent Federal Carbon Tax hike has already contributed an additional 3 cents per litre at local pumps, compounding the strain on consumers.
McTeague says that consumers can expect a staggering increase of 14 cents per litre across the entire province.
This surge would propel fuel costs to approximately $1.76 per litre, a significant uptick from the $1.62 range observed in areas such as Exeter, Grand Bend, Lucan, and Parkhill on Thursday morning, with some stations even reporting prices as high as $1.79.
