Southern Ontario is in for meteorological whiplash as winter and spring battle it out. After days of frost and freeze threats, temperatures are set to soar this weekend, bringing summer-like conditions to the region.
Spring’s volatile transition is on full display this week across Ontario. A shot of arctic air will bring widespread freezing temperatures tonight, threatening orchards and blossoms that have already bloomed.
However, in true spring fashion, much warmer air is expected to flood the region just in time for the weekend. Well above seasonal temperatures will dominate through Sunday, with some regions feeling as hot as 30 degrees Celsius.
This Sunday, we have a chance for the warmest day of the year so far – here in Exeter, we’re projected to reach 24°C, feeling like 29°C with humidity.
The forecast is set to remain above seasonal for the rest of April and for the start of May. Although this is good news as we head into the last month of spring, historically, about 50% of the time, below-freezing temperatures do appear in May.
