The Kirkton-Woodham Optimist Club is gearing up for its annual Fish Fry, a cherished local tradition and one of the club’s largest fundraising events. Scheduled for this weekend, the event promises a delicious feast of all-you-can-eat fried fish accompanied by a variety of sides.
The Club celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019, and the Fish Fry event is almost as old as the club itself.
Prior to COVID-19, the event sold 1,100 tickets. Despite scaling down to 800 tickets last year, the event was still a sell-out. This year, with 900 tickets available, the event is once again sold out, a testament to the ongoing community support for this beloved event.
The Optimist Club’s motto, “Friend of the youth,” guides their fundraising efforts. Funds raised from the Fish Fry and other events support various youth and kids activities. Recent donations have included support for the Exeter Scouts’ Jamboree in their trip to British Columbia, various 4-H clubs, and other community groups.
If you missed a chance to snap up tickets for the Fish Fry, the club will be hosting the Steak Out Night in July, offering another opportunity for the community to come together and support local causes.
