West Perth has launched its fleet of eight electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, with plans to closely monitor their usage and pricing over the next six months, as per the decision made during Monday’s (April 15) council meeting.
Electric vehicle charging is being offered at locations at the front and back parking lots of the municipal office on Wellington Street, as well as in Keterson Park facing the new pavilion.
In line with neighboring municipalities in Perth County, West Perth has adopted a pricing strategy aimed at maintaining fairness and competitiveness in the region. Currently, the municipality charges $4.80 for a two-hour charging session, slightly higher than nearby communities.
A kilowatt-based charging rate was floated as a potentially fairer alternative – however many expressed concern over that structure being too confusing, favoring the simplicity of an hourly fee.
A commitment was made to review the pricing structure in six months.
