In its ninth consecutive year, the community is gearing up for yet another spectacular fundraiser. Scheduled for Saturday, May 11th, Bayfield Wine Fest promises a delightful array of experiences for attendees.
From tantalizing food offerings to a diverse selection of beverages and live music performances, there’s something for everyone at this year’s event. This annual event has become a staple in the community, drawing in crowds from near and far to support a noble cause according to Bill Whetstone, the Co-organizer and President of the association managing the local Community Centre.
The fundraiser, organized by the association operating the Community Centre and Arena, boasts six food vendors offering a range of cuisines, including seafood, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Additionally, there will be 12 alcohol vendors showcasing a variety of beverages, including wine, beer, spirits from a distillery, and mead.
Attendees can groove to the tunes of two exciting bands, Side Road Reunion and Debrownus, while indulging in delicious food and beverages. Whetstone emphasizes that 100% of the proceeds from the event will be reinvested back into the arena, funding vital programs rather than capital investments.
Whetstone encourages early ticket purchases through Eventbrite or directly from vendors, as tickets may sell out fast.
One of the key highlights of this year’s fundraiser is its role in kickstarting a much-needed before and after-school program set to commence in September. With the support of major sponsors like White Squirrel and Little Inn, the event aims to raise substantial funds to ensure the success of this program, addressing a significant community need.
Reflecting on past years, Whetstone reminisces about the event’s popularity, which saw around 1200 attendees before the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily reduced numbers. However, he remains optimistic about this year’s turnout, citing the event’s reputation as a summer kickoff celebration and a cherished community gathering.
The event not only celebrates culinary and beverage diversity but also fosters a sense of community. Whetstone notes that attendees treat the fundraiser as a homecoming, reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones. The event’s popularity extends beyond local borders, attracting visitors from neighboring cities like London, Sarnia, and even Michigan.
With the promise of great food, drinks, music, and community spirit, the Bayfield Wine Fest annual fundraiser is set to be an unforgettable experience, uniting people in support of a shared cause while celebrating the joys of summer.
