Residents of Hensall, Goderich and Blyth should be prepared for a notable presence of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) reservists this weekend (May 3-5), as part of the “Trillium Venture” training exercise.
Organized by the 31 Canadian Brigade Group, this exercise aims to simulate and prepare for extreme heat scenarios, alongside water shortages and power outages.
The exercise will involve approximately 800 army reservists, and will cover various locations throughout Huron and Bruce counties – the community is encouraged to interact with reservists, and if desired, tour the portable headquarters set up in Blyth.
Throughout the weekend, reservists will undergo training for tasks crucial in heat-related emergencies, such as firefighting, all-terrain vehicle and watercraft operations, simulated search and rescue missions, and door-to-door wellness checks in local communities. These activities aim to prepare troops for real-world scenarios and ensure readiness in emergency response.
They will see support from Huron OPP, as well as other emergency services and municipal and county officials. Emergency Preparedness Ontario will also establish an emergency operations center in Wingham to facilitate effective response strategies.
