In September, Bank of Montreal made clear it’s intentions to close the branch in Grand Bend – and now the property has been purchased.
The Municipality of Lambton Shores has seized the opportunity to purchase prime real estate on the corner of Highways 21 and 81, with plans to convert it into a municipal parking lot in the short term.
With a purchase price of $1,000,000 (1 million dollars), the unanticipated purchase will cost the municipality over $130,000 in interest over it’s lifetime.
Although the municipality presently has no plans to demolish the structure on the premises, there have been proposed plans to use the existing building in conjunction with reconstruction of the bridge in Grand Bend, to be used as an office and staging space throughout that process.
The long term trajectory of the building and property is unknown at this time.
