The Hensall and District Kinettes hosted their Tampon Tuesday this week (Tuesday, May 28th) at Hansen’s Your Independent Grocer – aimed at combating period poverty by collecting feminine hygiene products and donations, this event saw the community come together in a big way.
President Julie Clark said that the community’s generosity was palpable throughout the day.
Last year, the event collected eight grocery carts full of products and raised $600 in cash donations – and Clark says that this year they hoped to build on that success.
The Kinettes collected four extra-large garbage bags full of donated products and raised over $650 in cash donations. These funds will be used to purchase additional care items such as incontinence pads and menstrual cups, with all donations going to local food banks and women’s shelters.
Volunteers from the Hensall Kinettes were also excited to be part of the event, using it as an opportunity to recruit new members and raise awareness about period poverty – a topic which is generally not discussed, despite it’s prevalence.

In a follow-up email, Clark expressed her gratitude to the community, saying, “Hensall and District Kinettes would like to thank everyone who took the time to stop and chat and share their stories with us. It is truly a humbling experience. There are reasons why we choose to live and raise our families in rural areas; this is one of those reasons. A community that sincerely cares for one another.”
With the continued support and generosity of the community, the Hensall Kinettes hope to make Tampon Tuesday an even bigger success in the years to come.
