The first human case of Lyme disease this year has been found in an adult from Middlesex County according to the Middlesex-London Health Unit.
Lyme disease, spread by black-legged ticks (also called deer ticks), usually starts with a bull’s-eye rash, headache, fever, chills, fatigue, and muscle and joint pain. If not treated, it can affect the joints, heart, and more.
Middlesex-London is a known risk area for black-legged ticks, so it’s important to protect yourself from ticks and see a doctor if you get bitten and develop symptoms.
To protect yourself, wear long sleeves and tuck your pants into your socks when in grassy or wooded areas. Use insect repellent with DEET and after being in areas where ticks live, check yourself and your pets for ticks.
