Over the past three decades, Huron Hospice has supported thousands of individuals in their journey through end of life care – and right now they’re working to expand their services to help even more people.
At Huron County Council’s last meeting in June (the 12th), they received a presentation from Huron Hospice, updating them on the hospice’s operations and its ongoing capital expansion project.
Willy Van Klooster, Executive Director, has led the hospice since just before the pandemic – he detailed the efforts undertaken to facilitate this expansion, which is set for completion in August.
Van Klooster underscored the significance of hospice care – in the last year alone, 72 individuals and their families received care at the residence.
The current project to expand the hospice’s capacity is just $130,000 short of its $3 million goal, and Van Klooster sought the county’s support to close this gap.
Council members expressed their gratitude and support. Mayor Jim Ginn of Central Huron said that having the hospice in his own community was a privelege.
Mayor Trevor Bazinet of Goderich shared his personal testimony of its impact.
The presentation will come back for discussion to decide whether or not the county chips in at council’s meeting on June 26th.
