For almost 50 years, kids in Clinton enjoyed an outdoor pool. But after being closed for three years due to costly repairs, the pool will not reopen.
Huron County council has decided to spend $200,000 to fill in the pool and turn the area back into green space. Building a new pool would have cost over $5 million according to Mayor Jim Ginn.
Many residents are upset about the closure and were sure to make their opinions known as community members gathered outside the pool on June 27th, to express their frustration. There was a suggestion to pave over the pool and create a sports area, but concerns about balls bouncing onto the nearby racetrack stopped that idea.
Ginn mentioned that while he would like a pool in Clinton, the $5 million cost is too high. He is confident they can create sports fields or a sports park elsewhere in the park after filling in the pool.
Ginn said the process to close the pool will begin this summer, but it will likely be next year before the area is returned to grass.
